The Clinic of Medicine II, University Medical Center Freiburg, is looking for a
PhD student (m/f/d)
We focus on translational research in the field of tumor immune escape in Hepatocellular carcinoma. Our results contribute to a better understanding of tumor-immune cell interactions with implications for therapeutic strategies.
Job description:
The aim of this project is to comprehensively study the role of Wnt/β-catenin tumor cell signaling for activation and functionality of the tumor immune microenvironment in hepatocellular carcinoma using patient-derived 3D model systems and high-dimensional immune cell profiling. Your work will give insights into the potential of Wnt/β-catenin signaling as a targetable candidate pathway to improve tumor susceptibility to immunotherapy for the continuously rising number of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
We offer:
- a translational project in a clinically relevant setting with the possibility to implement your own ideas
- working in a dedicated interdisciplinary team of biologists and physicians on exciting research topics
- possible participation in a graduate program
- a unique network of excellent partners for continuous support in development of your scientific profile
- a good working atmosphere in modern laboratories with cutting-edge equipment
- buddy system for new doctoral researchers
- participation in a wide range of further training opportunities and participation in (inter-)national conferences
- salaries are based on the German academic standards (TV-L, 65 %) with attractive employee benefits, e.g. JobTicket UKF
- an annual additional payment
- 30 days of vacation
Your work includes but is not limited to:
- autonomous processing of research tasks related to immune escape in hepatocellular carcinoma
- working with 3D ex vivo models including tumor spheroids and organoids
- application of state-of-the-art and cutting-edge methods of cell and molecular biology including immunohistochemistry, imaging mass cytometry, high dimensional FACS
- establishing of new methods to elaborate on subsequent research questions
- working with infectious sample material (S3** lab)
- presentation of results on regular lab and (inter-)national conferences
- supervision of students
Prerequisites:
- we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys translational scientific work in an interdisciplinary and international team
- graduation (M. Sc.) in biology, molecular medicine or related subjects preferentially with focus on oncology and/or immunology
- strong interest in translational research, human immunology and oncology
- distinct working autonomy combined with a high capacity for teamwork
- a careful and focused working habit
- enjoy scientific work
- awareness of careful documentation
- ability to work independently and as a part of an international team
- communication skills in English
- knowledge in presentation skills
If you are interested, please submit your application in German or English (including CV, a motivation letter and contact details of two references).
