The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most intractable educational problems.

Students in the EDUE 726 course will explore the historically complex relationship between education research, education (in)equity, personal practice, and transformative possibilities in education. Throughout the course, education research will be discussed in relation to a long legacy of justifying, perpetuating, and/or disrupting inequity in the education system. Historically produced norms in the field of education research (including accepted understandings of “knowledge”) will be analyzed, in relation to educational (in)equity. Exploration of research at the level of knowledge production will also highlight possibilities of research in relation to structural shifts toward justice in education.

Adjunct Faculty: USC reserves the “Adjunct Faculty” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty may teach one class, regardless of the number of units the class is, each semester (summer, fall and spring).
