NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions (MPAP) Vocal Performance Program seeks qualified candidates to teach Contemporary Voice Lessons. Appointment to begin Fall 2022 with potential for renewal on a semesterly basis thereafter. More information about the Vocal Performance Program can be found at

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide weekly individual instruction for undergraduate students completing a bachelor of music degree with a concentration in contemporary vocal performance.
    • Aiding students in selecting and learning material from different eras of contemporary vocal repertoire as well as some music theatre, folk, jazz and/or classical repertoire.
    • Continue, promote, and improve process oriented practices that secure the truthful and authentic communication of text by means of tools, reflective study exploration and integration of methodologies from other coursework.
    • Knowledge and foresight of the industry and the ability to assist the student in exploring how they can establish practices and set goals that will lead them to success.



A bachelor's degree or commensurate combination of training and professional experience.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • Success in the industry as a performer, teacher or coach as well as the ability to work with those less experienced in an academic or professional environment.
  • Knowledge and successful practice of applying proven pedagogical methods in teaching vocal technique as well as utilizing appropriate repertoire in securing healthy vocal function and sustainability.
  • A history of collegiality and professional conduct in communicating with others in the field in support of shared teaching and or professional objectives. The candidate hired for this position will work collaboratively with the vocal performance full time and adjunct faculty in support of the program.
  • Keyboard skills that facilitate accompanying vocal exercises. ○ Teaching or performing experience in other vocal genres (Musical Theatre, Jazz, Classical) are not required but would be of benefit.

  • A master’s degree or higher and university teaching experience.
