Adjunct Lecturer of Communication-Theoretical Approaches to Multidisciplinary Design Projects

The M.S. in Communication Data Science program, offered jointly by the  Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California seeks a qualified Adjunct Lecturer to supplement instruction offered by our full-time faculty, specifically to teach COMM 502 Theoretical Approaches to Multidisciplinary Design Projects. The purpose of this course is to examine and apply theories and present research in Communication and the Social Sciences to students interested in bridging the communication and engineering disciplines in order to produce a proposal, business plan, publication, or a research project. Particular emphasis is placed on applying theory to understand human communication and behavior, both in face-to-face and digital contexts. Topics include communication theory, communication technology, and new media. Candidates must have significant experience in the new media/technology sector and/or a track record of relevant teaching experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education: A Master’s in Communication, Information Studies, Business Management or related fields.

Minimum Experience: 10 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education: A Master or Ph.D. in Communication, Information Studies, Business Management or related fields.

Preferred Experience: Teaching experience in communication, new media, technology, and related fiends. Demonstrated ability to coach and help students achieve their academic and professional goals. Work experience in related positions at technology or media companies.  

USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year, but in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
