The School of Clinical Medicine has a strong focus on the delivery of both phases of the Medicine program across a number of sites within the Brisbane metropolitan area, including but not limited to, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Herston; the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Woolloongabba as well as QE2 and Redlands Hospitals; the Prince Charles Hospital, Chermside as well as Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospitals; Mater and Lady Cilento Childrens Hospitals, South Brisbane; Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich; Greenslopes Private Hospital, Greenslopes; Wesley and St Andrew’s Hospitals, Brisbane; the Primary Care Clinical Unit, Herston and the St Lucia Campus. Leadership at each site is provided by an experienced academic with responsibility for budget and financial matters, human resource matters and facility management. The School consists of academic staff members across all clinical disciplines and more than 2500 academic title holders.  


The role

The primary purpose of these teaching-focused roles is to coordinate and teach into the Clinical Science and/or Clinical Practice courses of Phase 1 of the MD program within the Faculty of Medicine. Multiple positions between 0.6 - 1.0 FTE are available at Academic Level B or C (Lecturer or Senior Lecturer).


The goal of the Clinical Practice courses is to provide medical students with a strong foundation in clinical communication skills, medical history and physical examination skills and procedural skills in preparing for their clinical immersion in Years 3 and 4 of the four-year MD Program. The Clinical Science courses are grounded in the disciplines of anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology, and are delivered through a case-based learning program; these run in conjunction with the School of Biomedical Sciences. The Clinical Science and Clinical Practice courses are delivered in an integrated manner with other Phase 1 courses in Ethics and Professional Practice, and Health Society and Research.


It is also expected that the appointees will undertake scholarship of teaching and learning, as well as administrative activities associated with Phase 1 of the MD Program and/or more generally within the School and Faculty.


The person

Applicants should have tertiary qualifications in a discipline relevant to the teaching and learning activities in Phase 1 medical courses with demonstrated experience and capacity in the development and delivery of medical education materials relevant to small and/or large group settings. A medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia is desirable.



This is a part-time or full-time (0.6 -1.0 FTE), continuing position as a Teaching Focused Academic Levels B or C. The remuneration package will be in the range of Level B $92,142.74 - $109,419.20 p.a. plus employer contributions of 17% (total package will be in the range of $107,807.01 - $128,020.46, subject to pro rata amounts if a part-time appointment is filled) or Level C $112,874.46 - $130,150.91 p.a. plus employer contributions of 17% (total package will be in the range of $132,063.12 - $152,276.56 subject to pro rata amounts if a part-time appointment is filled).


Clinical and State Loadings may be payable to eligible appointees.
