The School of Health Policy and Management, Faculty of Health at York University invites applications for a tenure-track professorial-stream appointment in Critical Disability Studies, Transnational Human Rights, and Intersectional Social Justice at the rank of Associate Professor to commence July 1, 2019.


We seek an internationally recognized mid-career scholar with a proven capacity to lead the field in emerging areas of research, scholarship, and social change, such as Black Disability Studies; critical approaches to disability in the context of capitalism, imperialism, and settler colonialism; social theory that integrates local and global analyses of class, gender, and racialization; and critical interventions into local, state, and inter- and supra-national legal, policy, convention, and treaty regimes.

The successful candidates will have achieved excellence and an international reputation in a combination of the following areas: academic publication record; research and funding track-record; community-based equity-focused projects; international work in disability policy and human rights; and innovative approaches to equity and social justice.


The successful candidate will contribute to our interdisciplinary graduate program in Critical Disability Studies and to our undergraduate and graduate programs in Health Policy and Equity. The successful candidate will have a PhD in one of a number of different disciplines (e.g., Sociology, Law, Economics, Research Methods, Public Policy, Political Science, Heath Policy, International Human Rights, Law and Society, History, Anthropology or other related field) so long as they have substantive background in Critical Theory, Policy, and Human Rights.


Candidates should show excellence in teaching and scholarly research and be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Pedagogical innovation in areas such as community-based learning, experiential education and technology-enhanced learning is preferred. Successful experience in teaching in critical disability studies and/or a related field are required. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision in addition to undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in a highly productive and collegial academic community.


Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval
