Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate for the project “Cluster of
Excellence Quantum Universe” in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg
higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG). The position commences on
1 October 2019.

It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 39 hours per week.

The fixed-term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor
contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 3

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates can also pursue
independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

The Cluster of Excellence “Quantum Universe” performs research to understand mass and
gravity at the interface between quantum physics and cosmology. The research team includes
leading scientists from mathematics, particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology at Universität
Hamburg and DESY.

The successful candidate will work on research problems in geometry and string theory. She or
he should have experience in interdisciplinary collaboration in this area with a strong interest
in mathematical aspects. The mathematical background should include differential and complex
geometry. Specific topics of particular interest to the project are, for example, the global
geometry of moduli spaces, special geometric structures (G-structures and generalizations
thereof), dualities, supersymmetry breaking, space-time geometry in theories of gravity and
geometric flows.


A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate.
