The Department of Education and Sports Science, which is part of the Faculty of Arts and Ecucation, offers primarily teacher training and postgraduate education in Education Science. The department also offers 1-year courses in Sport Science, Drama, Arts and Crafts, and a BA in Sports Science. Education Science is an academic focus at the university, and we are prepared to take a larger responsibility in educating both the national and regional workforce that is needed within the academic field. There are currently 75 employees and 900 students at the department.

 

Postdoctoral Fellow in education/special needs education

 

The University of Stavanger invites applications for a 2-year position as Postdoctoral Fellow in education/ special needs education at Faculty of Arts and Education, Department of Education and Sports Science. The position is vacant from August 1, 2019.

 

The field of research is education/special needs education. Over the past decade, research at the faculty at the Department of Education and Sports Science has studied teaching and learning within and across institutional contexts, from primary to higher education. Furthermore, the faculty are focused on issues concerning the 5-year Initial Teacher Education program (grade 1-7 and 5-10), profession oriented pedagogy, and Master in Special Needs Education. The postdoctor project is expected to contribute to the knowledge development relevant for aforementioned educational programs.

 

The objective of the position is to strengthen research, and to give researchers/scholars holding a doctoral degree within relevant academic field(s) the opportunity for further qualification toward full professorship.

 

The applicant must submit a description of a research project and a plan for its completion. It must be clear from the application in what way the project will add to the applicant's competence.

 

The applications will be assessed in relation to the relevance, quality and feasibility of the project. In addition to an evaluation of their submitted project plan and scientific work, potential candidates will be invited to an interview.

 

Qualifications within the areas of creativity, innovation and commercialization of research will be given emphasis in appointments to academic positions at the university.

 

Collaboration with local schools and municipalities plays a very important part in the knowledge development within the teacher education programs at this department. For that reason, the candidate is required to have knowledge about the Norwegian compulsory school system and teacher training programs, as well as the mastering of Norwegian or a Scandinavian language.

 

The research project will be carried out at the University of Stavanger. It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the scholarly circles at the faculty and university.

 

The position salary is set according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.510, code 1352, of NOK 500.000 - 600.000 per annum. In special cases, higher salaries may be considered. The position provides an automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favorable retirement benefits.
