 Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental Technology is part of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The department offers study programs at all levels within the areas Biological Chemistry, Chemistry and Environment. The department is responsible for basic tuition in chemistry at the faculty. Center for Organelle Research (CORE) is an integrated part of the department. There are currently 80 employees including doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, and 350 students at the department.

 

PhD research fellow in molecular biology/ecotoxicology

 

The University of Stavanger invites applications for a PhD research fellowship in molecular biology/ecotoxicology at Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental Technology .

 

This is a trainee position that will give promising researchers an opportunity for academic development leading to a doctoral degree.

 

The appointment is for three years with research duties exclusively. The position is vacant from August 2019.

 

The research field for the PhD position is molecular biology/ecotoxicology. The aim of the project is to provide innovative methods to identify chemical stressors in the aquatic environment that can affect the ecosystem and ultimately alter biodiversity.

 

Applicants must have a strong academic background with a five-year MSc degree, preferably of acquired recently, or possess corresponding qualifications that could provide a basis for sucessfully completing a doctorate. Both the grade for the master's thesis and the weighted average grade of the master's degree must individually be equivalent to or better than a B grade. 

 

The preferred candidate will have laboratory skills in molecular biology techniques, including gene expression, proteomics and possibly metabolomics. Experience in fish biology and effects of contaminants would be an asset, as well as interest in environmental science. Prior to starting in the position, the candidate must have fulfilled all the requirements for an MSc.

 

The appointee will be based at the University of Stavanger. Travels to laboratories abroad in partner institutions, workshops and conferences are required. It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the scholarly circles at UiS.

 

In evaluating the applicants, emphasis will be placed on their potential for research in the field.

 

The appointee must be able to work independently and as a member of a team, be creative and innovative.

 

The research fellow must have a good command of both oral and written English.

 

The resulting PhD degree will qualify for research and teaching positions at University level.

 

The salary for this position is set according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.515, code 1017, NOK 449.400 per annum.

 

The position provides an automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favourable retirement benefits.
