The School of Psychology is located in the Faculty of Science and has over 40 full-time members of academic staff and 17 general staff. It has an operating budget of over $12 million and additional research funding of over $15 million per annum. The School is very active in research, with most staff holding external research funding. The School has extensive laboratory facilities for both research and teaching.


About the role

  • $75K-$100K plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 12 months
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)


The Research Associate on this project is focused on Parkinson’s disease (PD), a neurodegenerative disorder with motor and non-motor symptoms. Deep brain stimulation is a current treatment for Parkinson’s. This project applies optogenetics tools to dissociate the underlying mechanism of DBS in PD for the improved treatment of PD.


About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

A PhD in Neuroscience, Behavioural Neuroscience or a related field.

Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology techniques and brain surgeries.

Demonstrated experience in optogenetics and chemogenetics is desirable.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven track record in publishing scientific research papers in a relevant area or field.

Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
