Job description

Increased understanding of the mechanisms associated with genital tract infections in mares and cows is essential when pursuing to identify new diagnostic methodologies and treatment strategies for sub- and infertility. The Section of Veterinary Reproduction and Obstetrics is highly interested in research focusing on the pathophysiology and the impact of infection and mucosal immunity of the female genital tract.  


The associate professor is expected to take the lead in the section’s research in infection, mucosal immunity and host-pathogens interactions in the equine genital tract and pursue the research opportunities within this area both nationally and internationally. Diagnosing and treatment of sub- and infertile mares is included in the clinical work and for the right candidate it will be an obvious opportunity to combine research and clinical practice.  


The department wants the associate professor to dedicate special emphasis to infection and mucosal immunity in the female reproductive tract although the associate professor must be willing to participate in clinical work and research on all animal species depending on the needs and possibilities of the department.   


In considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of Veterinary Reproduction and Obstetrics.   


The Section for Reproduction and Obstetrics is located at the University Campus in Taastrup in the periphery of Greater Copenhagen.


The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:  

  • Research in sub- and infertility in mares with particular emphasis on acute and chronic infections, inflammation and mucosal immunity  

  • Research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication   

  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination 

  • Research leadership, as well as educational guidance and supervision of assistant professors  

  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate  

  • Academic assessments  

  • Participation in clinical work in relations to the department’s hospitals  


Required qualifications 

Candidates are required to have attained research and teaching qualifications on a level corresponding to that of a satisfactorily completed assistant professorship; however, such qualifications may also have been attained otherwise. Candidates are required to present documentation for scientific production on an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications.   


Furthermore, a Danish DVM authorization is required. The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills. Fluent Danish language (speaking, reading and writing) is required to allow communication with animal owners and writing medical records. For non-Danish speaking applicants, the applicant must be able to fulfil this requirement within 1-2 years.  


Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

If an applicant has not attained teaching experience through assistant professorship employment, completed the educational study for assistant professors, or obtained similar teaching qualifications, the appointment will be on a trial basis for up to 18 months.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for  

assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.  All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
