Position Description

The Division of Pediatric General Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time, 12 month service period, faculty position providing general surgery care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. The faculty position at the rank of Assistant, or Associate Professor without tenure track. Salary is commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience, with an expected start date in July 2020.


The main responsibilities for this position include building a clinical practice in pediatric general surgery, with an emphasis in a trauma/critical care surgery, as well as participating in the education of surgical residents, medical students, and division fellows. UW Medicine surgeons are expected to develop an area of scholarly expertise, as expected of every faculty member, in consultation with the Division Chief. UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.


Candidates must have demonstrated expertise in pediatric general surgery, an MD (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified or board eligible (or foreign equivalent) in surgery. Candidates must also have completed an accredited pediatric surgery fellowship and be board-certified or -eligible by the American Board of Surgery (or foreign equivalent) in both pediatric surgery and surgical critical care.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
