The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus, invites applications for a three-year contractually limited term appointment in the area of Applied Economics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2019, or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Economics or related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research in Applied Economics and excellence in teaching.

We seek candidates whose teaching and research interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate must present clear evidence of an excellent teaching record and have the demonstrated capacity to adeptly teach our large-enrollment introductory and/or intermediate courses at the undergraduate level and possess excellent expository, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative and independent research.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, demonstrated by an innovative job market paper with a significant contribution to the literature, the submitted research statement, and strong recommendations by referees of high standing. Further support can be provided by high quality working papers, publications in prominent journals or forthcoming publications, presentations at significant conferences, accolades, or awards.

Evidence of excellence in teaching can be demonstrated through awards and accolades, a creative and coherent teaching statement, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations and any professional experience that may enhance teaching, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing. Other supporting evidence can include performance as a teaching assistant, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

Salary is to be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
