The Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science at York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a teaching stream tenure-track position in Biotechnology at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 1, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related discipline, a strong record of experience in the private sector and a demonstrated excellence or promise of excellence in teaching is required. The successful candidate will be expected to provide creative educational leadership and a commitment to student success in the development and delivery of a new Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology and Professional Master's Degree in Biotechnology Management at the Markham Campus. A tentative curriculum for this initiative includes an Introductory Course in Biotechnology and Ethics, as well as courses in Laboratory Skills, R&D Practices, and Data Analysis and Science Communication.

The successful applicant will be based at the York Markham Campus when operational (expected in Fall 2023) and become a member of the first cohort of resident faculty members. Between July 1, 2022, and the opening of the campus, the appointee will assume teaching responsibilities at Yorks Keele campus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence for junior appointment in teaching university-level courses through their teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to Biotechnology teaching, learning and program design, and demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
