The English Department is seeking a candidate for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track position) in digital humanities. Candidates should be able to address DH theoretically, critically, or thematically and also be able to practice methods such as computational literary studies, cultural analytics, social media analysis, text encoding, text analysis, ontologies, corpus construction, GIS/mapping, code or software studies, and machine learning/artificial intelligence, while relating or applying any of the above to important areas of current or historical social, cultural, and literary concern. The ideal candidate’s range would be broad enough to overlap with colleagues in other historical, theoretical, and methodological fields, including those in our department’s distinctive research and teaching centers (see http://www.english.ucsb.edu/research). Candidates must be able to teach a range of English department courses.

Applicants are expected to have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in English (or a commensurable and appropriate field) except the dissertation (or equivalent) at the time of application.

Some teaching experience at the university level as evidenced in the CV. Evidence of some practical or applied research in the field of digital humanities. Evidence of participation in professional network(s) in the field of digital humanities as evidenced in publications, talks, conference presentations, or participation in online research forums or communities.
