Assistant professor in Computer Science Spec. in High-Performance Computing

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of EECS

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Subject field

Computer science with specialization in High-Performance Computing

Subject description

The subject of the position includes the use of supercomputers, parallel processing techniques, and emerging hardware technologies, such as accelerators and heterogeneous memories, for solving complex computational problems. It focuses on developing parallel processing programming interfaces and algorithms to perform research activities through computer simulation and analysis on extreme-scale supercomputers.

Duties

The tasks primarily include conducting research and supervising students in their research in the subject area. The tasks include establishing industrial and academic collaborations both nationally and internationally, and specifically contributing to European and Swedish exascale projects. This may involve collaboration with, for example, application groups working on computational fluid dynamics, space physics, molecular dynamics, machine learning, and neuroscience.

The tasks also include developing courses and conducting teaching at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level in the subject area. This is mainly the case for teaching in the master's program in computer science in subjects such as GPU programming and parallel programming with MPI and OpenMP. An important part of the educational tasks is to build interdisciplinary educational activities within the school of electrical engineering and computer science.

The assistant professor will be given the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.
