Description

Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry
Department of Chemistry
University of California, Davis

The Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Davis invites applications for an assistant professor in the area of organic chemistry.

A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required by the beginning of the 2021 Fall Quarter. Candidates must possess or demonstrate the potential to achieve a strong record in the areas of research, teaching and service. The candidate must also possess the ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate level organic chemistry courses, and be strongly committed to providing service to the department, university, and chemistry communities.

The Department of Chemistry at UC Davis announces a tenure-track position in organic chemistry at the assistant professor level with a start date of July 1, 2021. We encourage applications from candidates with a strong background in any current or emerging areas of organic chemistry including, but not limited to, organometallics, polymers, machine learning/AI, methodology development and natural products total synthesis. The position will remain open until filled but to assure full consideration, submit by October 13, 2020 a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a summary of previous research, a statement of teaching, a statement of contribution to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and three letters of recommendation. In addition, each candidate should provide three original research proposals representative of the theme of their distinctive research program in organic chemistry.

Successful candidates for our faculty position will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to equity and inclusion through their research, teaching, and/or service. In their statement of contribution to diversity, equity, and inclusion the candidate should demonstrate a track record (calibrated to career stage) and/or awareness of issues related to teaching, research, or service activities addressing the needs of historically underrepresented and marginalized student communities, and a clearly articulated vision of how their work at UC Davis will continue to contribute to the University’s mission of serving the needs of our diverse state and student population.

UC Davis and the Department of Chemistry is also committed to addressing the family needs of faculty, including dual career couples and single parents. We are also interested in candidates who have had non-traditional career paths or who have taken time off for family reasons, or who have achieved excellence in careers outside academia.
