Assistant Professor in Pediatric Neurologist

University of Alberta

Canada

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applicants to apply for a contingent tenure track position of Assistant Professor with a primary appointment to the Division of Pediatric Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics and Edmonton Zone Section of Pediatric Neurology.

The required position is for a 1.0 FTE Pediatric Neurologist to support and improve coverage for the inpatient pediatric neurology service. Due the increasing prevalence of neuroinflammatory conditions (including multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating disorders) in northern Alberta and the current absence of pediatric expertise, the candidate will also be expected to have additional training in pediatric neuroinflammatory disorders.

The position is expected to be filled by a junior clinician at the level of Assistant Professor. The position will include a 60% commitment to clinical activity including the inpatient consultation service(s) and neurology admissions. Academic activities will include a 15% commitment to education, 5% to administrative activities, and 20% to research. It is expected the position will interact and collaborate with the adult neuroinflammatory disorders team in specialized clinical programs and research. Contributions to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are expected from all faculty. Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of the Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).

The successful applicant will join eight academic pediatric neurologists providing a full spectrum of clinical services. In addition to providing clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has a fully accredited Pediatric Neurology subspecialty training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. We have an active basic and clinical science program, collaborating locally, nationally and internationally.

Interested applicants must hold an MD, must have completed a subspecialty residency in Pediatric Neurology and must be certified or eligible to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Pediatric Neurology). In addition, the candidate is expected to have additional training/fellowship in pediatric neuroinflammation. See the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for more information on various routes of credentialing (http://www.royalcollege.ca/public/credentials/routes). The successful candidate must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
