The Media & Journalism Department at The University of South Dakota invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Instructor of Journalism. This is a nine-month position either tenure-track or as a professional instructor, beginning August 22, 2019.


The department is seeking an individual with primary teaching responsibilities in journalism who embraces digital storytelling techniques. Excellence in teaching is expected in both face-to-face and online courses. The successful candidate will also serve as a mentor to students outside the classroom. The successful candidate will advise the operations of The Volante, USD’s student newspaper and digital media outlet. The Media & Journalism program offers two majors; Media & Journalism with Specializations in Journalism and Strategic Communication (AD/PR) and Sport Marketing & Media. The successful applicant will join a department of 8 full-time faculty and more than 200 engaged undergraduate students.


Extensive experience in the production of multimedia content for journalism or strategic communication purposes or a Ph.D. in Mass Communications, Journalism, Communications, or related field is preferred. Candidates who are ABD or have extensive professional experience will be considered.
