Faculty of Science MU, a holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award by the European Commission, is a research-oriented faculty, offering university education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs) closely linked to both primary and applied research and high school teaching in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth sciences. The Department of Anthropology focuses on the study of interactions between biological, social and cultural aspects of humankind. We offer Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, consistently supporting more than a hundred students in the undergraduate programs and currently six students in the Ph.D. program. Students receive intensive training in biological and socio-cultural anthropology and are encouraged to participate in departmental research projects.
Our research activities emphasize forensic anthropology, nutritional status studies, modeling human growth and development, and multidisciplinary collaboration. The department’s labs are equipped with cutting-edge technologies for 3D data acquisition, advanced biological data processing, and evaluation of prehistoric and historic skeletal remains.
Currently, the department includes about 20 faculty members and researchers.
The candidate is expected to carry out pedagogical and research tasks in line with the mission of the Faculty and activities of the Department, including:
Teaching and developing study programs.
Conducting research and development activities.
Promoting science and disseminating research results.
Participating in academic committees and performing administrative duties as assigned.
Key Duties:
Teach current courses (introductory and specialty) at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Conduct research related to evolutionary-oriented physical/biological anthropology.
Advise and mentor students; serve on committees and participate in academic functions.
Seek external funding for research activities in skeletal anthropology/bioarchaeology (preferably including field surveys and excavations).
Required:
Master’s and Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Anthropology or related field.
Knowledge of theories, concepts, and approaches in physical/biological anthropology.
Ability to conduct independent research and analysis.
Excellent communication and teaching skills.
Teaching experience and ability to innovate in education.
Scholarly achievements (peer-reviewed publications, books, reports).
Experience with extramural grants, proposal design, and project management.
Evidence of quality instruction and student supervision.
Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Understanding of Czech language preferred but not mandatory.
Preferred:
At least 5 years of professional experience at national or international level as a physical or biological anthropologist.
