The Division of Media Arts + Practice within the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California seeks applicants for an Adjunct Assistant Professor to teach one 400-level course titled IML 454: Advanced Platform: 3D Design. The course explores spatial perception and advanced techniques of 3-D representation for use in projection mapping, media installation, real-time environments, virtual spaces, design prototyping and fabrication. The course is hands-on and students will learn to use the appropriate modeling tools for these applications. The class also discusses concepts and theories of 3-D design, and the emerging aesthetics of these new forms of representation.  

 

Minimum education: Master’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience: 

2-4 years’ experience with the following:

  • 3D modeling for visual effects; projection mapping with tools such as Touch Designer; augmented reality and game programming with tools such as Unity3D; and modeling techniques for fabrication and design prototyping.

  • Theoretical and historical knowledge of 3-D design. 

  • Experience mentoring and teaching undergraduate students.

 

Preferred education: PhD in media-related discipline or equivalent work experience.

Preferred experience: 

3-5 years’ experience with the following:

  • 3D modeling for visual effects; projection mapping with tools such as Touch Designer; augmented reality and game programming with tools such as Unity3D; and modeling techniques for fabrication and design prototyping.

  • Theoretical and historical knowledge of 3-D design. 

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students.

 

The core salary range for this position is $30 - $45 per hour. This is a 25%-time adjunct position.
