Position Summary

The University of Miami is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Clinical Audiology to work in Miami.

The Assistant Professor of Clinical Audiology administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, as well as contributes positively to the visibility, academic and research standing of the department.

The Assistant Professor is expected to actively engage in research, teaching, and furthering the field.

The core job responsibility of this position is as a diagnostic audiologist, with a minimum of 20% clinical effort allocated toward neurodiagnostic audiology. This position also includes subspecialization in Pediatrics.

Bilingual applicants are preferred.


Core Job Functions and Key Responsibilities

  • Specialty is Pediatrics; expected to meet competencies for this specialty.
  • Provides Diagnostic Audiology and Rehabilitation services.
  • Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as speech perception, air and bone conduction, otoacoustic emissions, and electrophysiology.
  • Performs discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment.
  • Performs high frequency audiometry where indicated.
  • Participates in ongoing clinical research as projects arise.
  • Provides coverage for the Neurodiagnostic clinic for at least 20% of clinical effort (changes to this amount are at the discretion of the department chair and chief of service).
  • Actively participates in the education of externs, fellows, students, and onboarding audiologists, engaging in clinical teaching of graduate students.
  • Develops a regional and eventually national presence as a clinical leader through participation in national and regional meetings.
  • Performs administrative and committee responsibilities as assigned by the Chairman or Chief of Service, which may include participation in, or organization of, continuing medical education courses in the provider area of specialty.
  • Participates in divisional quality control projects and implementations.
  • Demonstrates competence in running clinics independently.
  • Clinical effort is subject to change based on the needs of the clinic.
  • Travels to satellite clinics as required.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to cover clinics in the absence of a co-worker for the core and designated subspecialty.
  • Takes add-on audiological evaluation appointments as needed from the ENT clinic.
  • Meets organizational productivity goals.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education Requirements

  • Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree required.
  • Current valid Florida Audiologist license required.

Work Experience Requirements

  • One year of audiologist-related experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
