The Department of Anthropology and the Institute of Forensic Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Forensic Biology. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Anthropology (51%) and the Institute of Forensic Sciences (49%). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

PhD in Biology or closely related field (by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter).
Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching, with emphasis on forensic genetics.
Demonstrated expertise in Forensic Biology with a proven record (or trajectory) of professional practice including:
Forensic laboratory experience, and/or
Professional forensic activities (casework, court testimony, or equivalent).
Evidence of research excellence through publications, research statement, conference presentations, awards, and strong reference letters.
Evidence of teaching excellence through accomplishments, teaching dossier, evaluations, and/or related activities (e.g., student mentorship, workshops, seminars, excellent presentations/posters).
Preferred expertise includes:
Laboratory analysis of forensic biological evidence and crime scene investigation
Forensic serology and basic serology techniques
Forensic DNA profiling
DNA extraction and quantitation methods
PCR; SNP genotyping (Real Time PCR, Luminex)
STR genotyping (capillary sequencer, primer design)
Sanger sequencing and massively parallel sequencing (sequencing by synthesis)
Experience with Illumina platforms and chemistries (preferred)
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Institute of Forensic Sciences at UTM provides students with training in scientific analysis, theory, laboratory skills, applications, and field techniques, with programs in forensic anthropology, forensic biology, forensic chemistry, and forensic psychology.
The Department of Anthropology offers research and teaching expertise across biological, archaeological, linguistic, and socio-cultural anthropology.
