The Blair School of Music and the Peabody College for Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University invite applications for an Assistant Professor in Instrumental Music Education. This is a tenure-track position beginning in the fall semester of 2019, a joint appointment between the Blair School and Peabody College as part of the five-year B.Mus./M.Ed. degree program in Music and Teacher Education.


Responsibilities include recruiting and teaching undergraduate instrumental music education majors (band, orchestra, and general music classroom settings) and overseeing the fifth year M.Ed. (supervising placement and evaluation of student teachers and EdTPA/Capstone projects).


Peabody College is consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 10 graduate schools of education, and has been ranked first five times.   The Blair School has quickly and dramatically gained a reputation as one of the nation’s finest schools of music. 


Qualifications

Candidates must have significant classroom teaching experience, should hold a Ph.D in Music Education (though this is not a requirement for consideration), and be able to serve as a mentor to a broadly diverse array of students.  The successful candidate will be responsible for continuing the strong relationship between the Blair School, Peabody College, and the Metro Nashville Public Schools.
