The Interior Design Program in the School of Design at South Dakota State University seeks applicants for a nine-month, full time academic appointment. The successful candidate for this position will begin their faculty appointment at SDSU in August 2019 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The mission of the Interior Design Program is to prepare graduates for professional practice through research-informed, design-thinking infused and practice-based projects and opportunities that will strengthen their rationale and creative thinking.

We are searching for a colleague who values collaboration, who is able to contribute at multiple levels of the undergraduate curriculum, and who is passionate about excellence in design. We seek an individual who supports our overarching goal to provide transformative learning opportunities to shape creative, rational, socially and environmentally responsible design professionals.

 

TEACHING
Teach undergraduate level studio, lecture and seminar courses; mentor students; participate in innovative teaching and curriculum development; and support ongoing CIDA and NASAD accreditation integration and documentation.

 

RESEARCH
Develop a track record of peer-reviewed research, scholarship or creative activity. Dovetail efforts and outcomes into impactful teaching and learning experiences.

 

SERVICE
Engage in community through professional service; and participate in program, school and college governance.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Terminal degree in Interior Design, or a first-professional degree in Interior Design with a terminal degree in an Allied Design discipline by start date.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• A proven record of research, scholarship and/or creative activity. 
• Ability to dovetail research and/or creative activity into impactful teaching and learning experiences.
• Ability to teach and engage across the undergraduate curriculum.
• Experience with the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) standards.
• Evidence of collaborative and cross-disciplinary teaching.
• Ability to contribute to and participate actively in the program.
• Record of service within the discipline.
