Position Description

The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three-year full-time Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) in the area of German Language Pedagogy.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in any field of German Studies (completed by start date or shortly thereafter)
  • Native or near-native German proficiency
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching in degree-granting programs
  • Experience in:Experience coordinating multi-section language courses (beginner and intermediate levels)
    • Language course preparation and delivery
    • Innovative second-language German instruction
    • Curriculum development
    • Online teaching material development
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Commitment to pedagogical innovation and teaching-focused scholarly activity

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate German language courses at all levels
  • Coordinate the German language sequence
  • Manage and mentor teaching assistants and instructors
  • Oversee course materials and curriculum delivery
  • Participate in departmental administration
  • Collaborate with faculty in undergraduate teaching and program development

Teaching & Evidence of Excellence

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching through:

  • Teaching dossier (required)
  • Teaching philosophy statement
  • Pedagogical research interests
  • Sample syllabi and course materials
  • Teaching evaluations
  • Awards, conference presentations, and teaching accomplishments
  • Strong reference letters (including at least one focused on teaching)

Salary

$105,000 – $130,000 CAD per annum
(negotiable for exceptionally qualified candidates)
