The School of Education (SOE) at Iowa State University seeks a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague to join the Elementary Education program with an emphasis in Mathematics. The successful candidate will support the development of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers through a combination of teaching, mentoring, and service.
The position carries a four-course per semester teaching load and requires a commitment to equitable, evidence-based mathematics pedagogy. Candidates will teach undergraduate mathematics methods courses, foundational education courses, and participate in departmental and school-level service.
Teach undergraduate methods courses in elementary mathematics
Teach additional courses in elementary education programs, such as foundations of education
Participate in SOE service, including program and school meetings and committees
Contribute to the preparation and mentorship of future elementary teachers
Master’s degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field
Completion of a teacher preparation program
Licensure/certification in elementary education (any U.S. state)
Three years of experience as an elementary school teacher using Iowa Academic Standards for Mathematics or Common Core Standards
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available.
Advanced coursework or PhD in elementary mathematics education or closely related field
Experience preparing/supporting elementary school teachers
Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level
More than three years as a successful elementary teacher
Experience providing professional development on Iowa Academic Standards, Common Core, or NCTM’s Effective Practices
