Position Overview

The department seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor to advance public-facing science communication, journalism, and media studies. Candidates should be able to bridge journalism, media, and scientific disciplines and be committed to interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research in science, health, or environmental journalism/media studies with potential for external funding.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in journalism, media studies, and science communication.

• Advise and mentor students, including consultation with student climate journalism TV program.

• Develop interdisciplinary curricula and minors for science majors seeking communication expertise.

• Collaborate across university environmental, health, and science units.

• Contribute to departmental, school, and university service.

Qualifications

Required:

• Ph.D. in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, or related field.

• Demonstrated potential for scholarly research and publication.

• Ability to teach and mentor students across majors.

• Commitment to inclusive teaching and research.

Preferred:

• Experience in journalism, broadcast media, media studies, or science communication.

• Expertise in:

  • Environmental, health, and science journalism

  • Environmental communication and social change

  • Emerging technologies in journalism/media storytelling

  • Sustainability in media industries

Research Approaches:

• Accepts social science and interpretive methodologies.

• Encourages interdisciplinary scholarship with varied epistemologies and methodologies.
