Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks a one (1) full-time Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure), due to reasons of funding, to join our Informatics Division. The primary service responsibility will be to participate in the direction of one or more of the Department's divisions.  

This position will focus on service and education that supports data analytics and informatics development, spending the majority of effort using data sources from the electronic health record, laboratory information system, instruments, middleware, and data warehouses to develop novel analytical solutions such as algorithmic enhancements to existing clinical assays, clinical workflow/process improvements, clinical decision support, and clinical data sharing approaches that enhance operations as well as basic and applied research within UW Medicine. The successful candidate will propose a portfolio of projects aligned with personal interests and departmental priorities. A minority of effort may be devoted to research, which may include basic, applied/translational and/or collaborative research.  

Faculty members actively participate in the general activities of the Department, such as faculty meetings, consensus conferences, research conferences, journal clubs, QA meeting, Call Rounds and Grand Rounds, amongst others. Additional responsibilities may include the teaching of residents, fellows, medical students, graduate students, and medical laboratory scientist program undergraduates.  

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  This position is full-time and non-tenured and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of 7/1/2024 but is flexible. 

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $10,833 to $11,250 per month ($130,000 to $135,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess an MD (or foreign equivalent) or a PhD in a related field (or foreign equivalent). Successful candidates will have a record of research demonstrating skills in data science, statistics, data modeling, machine learning, or related fields as documented by publications.
