Description

The Department of Molecular Genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (St. George campus) invites applications for a three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the areas of Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Microbiology. The appointment is expected to start on January 1, 2026, and end on December 31, 2028.

Candidates are expected to have earned a PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Virology, or related fields, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths.

Candidates must have teaching experience in undergraduate degree programs, including lecture preparation and delivery, teaching lab facilitation, course coordination, curriculum assessment and development, and the development of online teaching materials and lectures. A clear demonstration of experience teaching Microbiology and Virology at the undergraduate level, as well as coordinating and facilitating undergraduate teaching labs, is highly preferred. Extended pedagogical training or relevant post-doctoral training in Microbiology and/or Virology would be an asset.

Evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards, presentations at significant conferences, formal teaching evaluations, and a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Candidates are also expected to show a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and promoting a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

The successful candidate will undertake undergraduate and potentially graduate teaching responsibilities and play a key role in the laboratory, microbiology, and virology undergraduate training programs within the Department.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Molecular Genetics is a vibrant intellectual community of world-class scholars and is a leading center for biomedical and life sciences research and education. The Department comprises over 100 faculty members, with research spanning Cellular and Molecular Structure and Function, Computational and Systems Biology, Functional Genomics and Proteomics, Genetic Models of Development and Disease, Molecular Medicine and Human Genetics, and Molecular Microbiology and Infectious Disease.
