Position Description

The Department of Neurology at the University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking a research scientist to join the Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Research Center, headed by Dr. Jeff Chamberlain.  The applicant is expected to establish an independent research program focused on developing genetic treatments for the muscular dystrophies or related neuromuscular disorders, with a focus on developing novel therapies and on immunological consequences of gene therapy vectors. The Wellstone Center currently has approximately 12 full-time faculty members leading various programs on neuromuscular disease therapeutics.  All members of the Center work closely together and have access to a Viral Vector Core lab as well numerous other state-of-the-art Core facilities for imaging, sequencing, gene expression and animal care.  This is a full-time, 12-month service period appointment, at the Assistant Professor (without tenure) rank with an anticipated start date of January 2, 2024. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. This position is intended for full-time research without clinical responsibilities.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position in this title will be $8,334 - $9,584 per month ($100,008 to $115,008 per year), commensurate with experience, discipline, and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Our salaries are bench marked based on the AAMC scale. Other compensation associated with this position may or may not include Startup, Relocation Incentive/Moving Allowance Administrative supplement for a defined administrative role, or Productivity Incentive.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is negotiable but not later than January 2 2024.

Qualifications

A PhD (or foreign equivalent) is required.
