Position Description

The Department of Pathology at the University of Washington is seeking a full-time academic neuropathologist for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor without Tenure for reasons of funding. The candidate will be expected to participate in diagnostic neurosurgical, neuromuscular, ophthalmic, and autopsy neuropathology services as well as resident and medical student teaching.

This is a 12-month active service, full-time position that is open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020 but is flexible.

Each year the Division of Neuropathology evaluates approximately 1,700 surgical specimens and 300 autopsies. Faculty in our Division have well-funded research laboratories and collaborate extensively with members of allied Departments to include teaching, research and clinical service.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in research as well as diagnostic neuropathology.

Positive factors for consideration may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Demonstrated interest and productivity in neurodegenerative disease pathology and research
  2. Experience and/or training ADRC neuropathology core leadership
  3. Experience/desire to combine human tissue and experimental models to study neurodegenerative disease
  4. A demonstrated track record of independent funding

Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. (or foreign equivalent), should be board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology, and qualify for a license to practice medicine in the State of Washington.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
