Position Summary

The Department of Sociology at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Computational Sociology. This search is part of a cluster hire in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence across Rutgers–New Brunswick, which began in 2023 and includes a component on Computational Social Science.

The successful candidate will perform research and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Sociology. They will also have the opportunity to join cross-school collaborative initiatives, including:

  • Computational Social Science Lab

  • Rutgers AI and Data Science (RAD) Collaboratory

Candidates should use computational methods (including machine learning, generative AI, agent-based modeling, NLP, digital experiments) in their research and examine the social impacts of technology and AI. Research areas of interest include political participation, health, sociology of work, social control, social movements, or the environment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field by the start of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using computational tools in social science research

  • Research addressing substantive social impacts of technology


Salary & Benefits

  • Minimum Salary: AY Assistant Professor $98,000

  • Final salary will be based on qualifications, experience, expertise, and available funding
