The Department of Clinical Veterinary Science at the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professorship in Small Animal Surgery (100%).
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Service: Provide clinical care for small animals and actively contribute to the day-to-day operations of the small animal surgery unit; active participation in the emergency service system for small animal surgery (back-up)
- Undergraduate Teaching: Deliver lectures, practical courses, and seminars in small animal surgery
- Resident Supervision: Guide and mentor ECVS residents
- Research : Lead and implement own research projects in Small Animal Surgery
- Supervision: Oversee PhD, Dr.med.vet., and master's students in their research projects
- Leadership: This position includes the role of Small Animal Surgery section Deputy Head
Requirements
- Master Degree in Veterinary Medicine
- Diploma from the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) or the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS)
- PhD or equivalent scientific qualification, demonstrating internationally recognized research activity in the field of Small Animal Surgery
- Significant clinical experience, preferably with a focus on orthopedic surgery
- Fluency in English, preferably also German and/or French, or commitment to learn them for teaching and client communication

- Contributions to academic committees and professional activities
We offer
- Initial term: 4 years
- Extension: Possible for 2 years following a positive evaluation
- Promotion: Eligible for promotion to a permanent professorship within 4–6 years, dependent on meeting the qualification criteria, determined by the regulations of the Vetsuisse Faculty Bern
