We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 3 years position, who is to commence by 1 November 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position deals with research to study transfer of antibiotic resistance in the human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus and the role of bacteriophages (phages) in this process. Particularly addressed will be the interplay between and phage and bacterium and the regulatory elements involved.

Information on the department can be found at:

Our research

We study antibiotic resistance in the bacterial pathogen, S. aureus with focus on how resistance develops and spreads. Bacterial viruses, the phages, are central for the dissemination of resistance genes in S. aureus and we are only beginning to understand the processes involved.

Your job

Your task will be to decipher the interplay between phage and bacterium in the transduction process where bacterial DNA is packaged into phage particles and identify regulatory elements in both phage and bacterium that impacts the process. Your aim will be to determine if phage or bacteria are able to regulate the process.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Molecular Microbiology
  • You are highly experienced in phage biology
  • You have an active interest in studying dissemination of antibiotic resistance
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Evidence of an emerging track record of publications in a relevant field
  • Experience of studying the interactions between bacteriophages and host bacteria cells, particularly in S. aureus
