Position description

The Department of Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Project Scientist in The Center for Human Sleep Science, directed by Professor Matthew Walker. Research in the lab addresses how sleep and sleep loss impact human health and brain function.
The Assistant Project Scientist should be an expert at the scientific study of sleep including the analysis of PSG and functional MRI signals. Duties will include collection of sleep and brain imaging data, recruitment of research participants and data analysis. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to develop novel models of the role of sleep in optimal brain function supported by study findings. Additional duties include writing papers for peer-reviewed journals, presenting talks at professional meetings, and assisting with grant writing and grant reporting.
• Will be responsible for recruiting and scheduling participants and preparing applications for human subjects approval
• Will be designing and creating experimental stimuli
• Will be assisting with data analysis and the preparation of research for publication
• Will be responsible for training undergraduate assistants and maintaining participant records



Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• A PhD or equivalent international degree at the time of application

Preferred qualifications

• A Phd degree or significant coursework in Neuroscience, Biology or Psychology
• Postdoctoral experience, a strong track record in producing peer-reviewed publications.
• Experience with scientific computing in Neuroscience.
• A strong record of human sleep studies
• Experience with EEG and functional MRI
