Description

Professor Ren Sun’s lab in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology is recruiting for a Project Scientist at the Assistant rank. The candidate will independently lead a project performing small molecule screening and make site-specific mutations on herpes virus. In addition, the candidate is expected to study fundamental questions related to the herpes virus life cycle, including structural functional relationships and viral-host interaction, developing a platform using attenuated herpes virus as vaccine vector. The candidate will be exposed to a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment, using systems approaches to investigate a variety of different viruses and their interactions with the host, such as influenza virus, HIV, and ZIKV. The candidate will be expected to help supervise graduate students and undergraduate students in the lab.


Requirements for the position: PhD in cell biology, virology, immunology or related area with a strong publication track record. The following qualifications are required: (1) experience conducting small molecule screening in UCLA Molecular Screening Shared Resource (MSSR) center; (2) experience with model organisms; and (3) experience with mutagenesis using bacterial artificial chromosome.


Experience in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students is preferred.
