Salary range: The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 13-B. The salary range for this position is $87,100 - $102,900. "Off-scale salaries", i.e. a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Position description

The Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for an Assistant Researcher. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in space physics or related fields.

The person hired will participate in the operation of the RIMFAX ground penetrating radar experiment on NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover Mission, and conduct research on Mars and Mars analog environments on Earth. The incumbent shall be involved in science planning, data uplink and downlink, data analysis and interpretation of the RIMFAX data. They will also work with the Perseverance rover team to better define the geological history and geological context of the rover’s field area. They will also conduct independent Mars-related research utilizing remote sensing and in-situ Mars observations, laboratory data, or data from Mars analog sites on Earth. Work is to be carried out in collaboration with Prof. David Paige and his research group.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
