Job Overview

The Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages at Drexel University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, full time teaching position in Spanish (36 credits). The successful applicant will begin in September 2019. The appointment will be for one year, renewable based on performance, enrollments, and successful annual review. 

The position includes a full benefits package and the possibility of promotion through the ranks of teaching professor (assistant, associate, and full). Candidates with expertise in any of the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: foreign language and community-based pedagogies; Latinx and Latin American cultural studies, including film, literature, history, and linguistics.

 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold at least a Master's degree in either Spanish applied linguistics or transnational cultural studies (cultural and social movements, film, media, literature, identity...) in the Spanish-speaking world. Innovative use of instructional technology is required (familiarity with COIL, Teletandem, and similar strategies is a plus). Teaching duties include all levels of language. 

The ability to engage through advanced community-based courses with our vibrant Spanish-speaking migrant and heritage population in Philadelphia is a plus. A Ph.D. is preferred, but not required. Native or near-native competency in the language required. 

Candidate must be an experienced and enthusiastic language teacher and educator. Strong written and oral communications skills required. The ability to work with others within the Spanish section and the larger department on curriculum, scheduling, study abroad, and related areas is indispensable.

 

Essential Functions

The workload is 36 credits of courses over three quarters. Teaching duties include all levels of Spanish undergraduate courses. Basic administrative functions such as course scheduling, curriculum, level coordination, adjunct hiring and mentoring, and textbook adoption are required.
