Job Overview

The Department of English and Philosophy at Drexel University seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track assistant teaching professor to begin fall 2019. The successful candidate will teach composition in our first-year writing program as well as creative writing in our Storylab workshops. 

The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of reappointment for renewable 2- or 3-year contracts. 
The teaching load is the equivalent of four three-credit courses in each of Drexel's fall, winter, and spring 10-week quarters. Three courses each term will be in first-year writing, in traditional and/or hybrid format. The fourth course will involve instructional responsibility in Storylab, an evening creative writing workshop for nontraditional students.



Minimum of master's degree in rhetoric/composition, English, or creative writing required; advanced degree (MFA, EdD, or PhD) or strong publication record in fiction writing preferred. 

Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and of varying ages required. 
Experience teaching first-year writing and creative writing preferred.


Essential Functions

Teach three sections of first-year writing each quarter, in traditional or hybrid format. Teach Storylab evening workshops (typically 5 to 8:15 pm on Monday evenings). These workshops enroll up to 10 non-matriculated students, who receive intensive instruction and feedback but no formal grades.
