Position Description

The Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington invites applications for the position of Part-Time Assistant Teaching Professor of Swedish in Scandinavian Studies. Applicants must have at least an M.A. in Scandinavian studies, or equivalent. The initial appointment, starting September 16, 2021, is for a 1-year term, with the possibility of renewal. This position requires teaching language courses as well as lower- and upper-division high-enrollment courses in English on modern Scandinavia. The lecturer is expected to prepare course material, evaluate student work, assign grades by established deadlines, hold office hours, advise students, and interact with students outside of class both in person and online. Applicants who will contribute to the diversity mission of the Department of Scandinavian Studies are especially encouraged to apply.


·      Native or near-native language ability in Swedish

·      Expertise in Scandinavian culture (M.A. required)             

·      Experience with on-line pedagogy, course design and teaching

·      Record of outstanding language teaching experience

·      Demonstrated ability to develop new courses
