Penn State is home to over 100,000 students across its 24 campuses. Penn State is conducting a national search for candidates for the position of Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (AVPFA). Situated within the Office of the Provost at Penn State, the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs is a fast-paced, high performing, dynamic environment dedicated to facilitating faculty success across Penn State. This position reports to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. The AVPFA provides strategic leadership to the Provost and members of Penn State’s academic leadership team related to the implementation of policies and procedures, data utilization, strategic planning, and other initiatives that pertain to faculty across all of Penn State’s campuses. The successful candidate will be a champion for inclusive excellence, with a focus on programs that achieve and support diversity, equity, and inclusion for faculty. Specifically, this person will: Strategize and interface with academic leadership, academic advisory, and governing committees including the University Faculty Senate and offices across the University (Human Resources, Office of General Counsel, Affirmative Action, Office for Planning, Assessment, and Institutional Research); facilitate integration of Penn State policies, systems, and processes in academic programs and services, including the development of communications and training approaches; provide stewardship for and monitor compliance with academic human resources (HR) policies, including recommending the development and modification of, and administration of academic HR policies; design and implement faculty talent management strategies by supporting executive and academic administrator searches, advising on executive and academic administrator performance evaluations; provide support to academic leadership on faculty hiring including support on academic dual career spouses and partners; lead the Office of Faculty Affairs efforts to oversee data pertaining to faculty and provide expertise in the development of management reports, analyses, data and information for administrative purposes and decision-making; represent the Office of the Provost on various University and campus-level committees of importance to academic administrators and faculty. Qualifications: A Masters’ degree or equivalent and 5-10 years of related experience is required; a terminal degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful collaboration across organizational boundaries, a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, strengths in critical and strategic thinking, demonstrated experience managing large-scale projects and institutional initiatives including a history of data-driven decision-making, a solid understanding of and experience with faculty affairs, a passion for facilitating the needs of university faculty, and the ability to develop, mentor, and lead staff.
