Posting Summary

The Sociology Department at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, seeks applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in the area of Crime and Social Control. The candidate’s tenure line would be wholly in Sociology; teaching responsibilities would be split between the Sociology Department and the interdisciplinary Program in Criminal Justice. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing research, and teaching graduate/undergraduate classes in Sociology and undergraduate classes in Criminal Justice. We seek a scholar who will study crime through a distinctly sociological lens, situating it in relation to institutions of social control such as families, schools, communities, social welfare organizations, police, courts, and/or the penal system. Scholars who focus on sociological aspects and impacts of criminal justice institutions are encouraged to apply, especially if their work complements departmental strengths such as work & organizations, the sociology of health, politics & social movements, and race, ethnicity & immigration. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field by start of appointment (on September 1, 2022). We will start reviewing applications on October 15, 2021. Applications received after that date cannot be assured full consideration. The Department is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our community.
