The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine are actively seeking a full-time faculty member for the position of Director of Pathology Informatics.  As Director of Pathology Informatics this individual will lead a team responsible for clinical informatics activities including technical and operational oversight of CHLA’s laboratory information systems for Anatomic Pathology (AP), Laboratory Medicine (LM), and Genomic Medicine/Center for Personalized Medicine (GM/CPM), as well as systems and data for the Translational Pathology Core Laboratory and Biorepository.  Activities will include operational administration of and participation in pathology and laboratory medicine’s quality assurance processes for Cerner Millennium, CoPath Plus and other laboratory information systems and interfaces in support of patient care, clinical research, lab operations, outreach business growth, and revenue optimization.

This individual will serve as a visible champion and liaison for projects and efforts related to Pathology and Laboratory Medicine data and its uses within the enterprise including electronic health record and data lake(s), strategic project planning, production system monitoring and improvement, assurance of enterprise interoperability, oversight of regulatory compliance, data governance, quality assurance and protection to meet the needs of CHLA’s patients and families.  Success will require a collaborative leadership style and the ability to work closely with faculty, administration, managers and staff within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, CHLA Information Services and The Saban Research Institute (TSRI).  The scope of responsibility will include project management and direct participation in laboratory informatics projects while coordinating these projects with related enterprise initiatives.

Research, clinical service, and teaching responsibilities are intertwined in an engaging and collegial environment.  The successful candidate with have or demonstrate an aptitude for excellence in applied laboratory science, translational research and education. Faculty level responsibilities include creation and/or deployment of data science and analytic tools to support innovative translational research, training and education in topics relevant to the field of biomedical informatics within various forums including CHLA’s Pediatric Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Medicine Post-doctoral Fellowship Training Programs.  Rich opportunities for research and publishing relevant to the field of biomedical informatics exist both within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well through a wide array of collaborations and CHLA initiatives which make use of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine data.

This position is at the Assistant/Associate Professor level; and salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience and scholarly accomplishments. Applicants must have an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree with relevant expertise in Clinical Informatics, Bioinformatics and Data Science. Candidates must have extensive experience in clinical informatics including Pathology, Laboratory and Genomic testing, data analytics, informatics, computational biology and software development. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of developing innovative analytical solutions to solve complex health problems and in leading high functioning interdisciplinary teams working on complex tasks in rapidly evolving environments. Applicants must have demonstrated excellence in basic and/or translational research and its application to innovative clinical care and education.  American Board of Pathology certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology is required for MD candidates, as well as a California medical license upon hire (for MD candidates).
