Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Program within CSE invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Thermo-Fluids, with an emphasis on:

  • HVAC systems

  • Smart and renewable energy experimentation and modeling

  • Sustainable building energy systems

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in thermo-fluid sciences applied to buildings and energy systems, advanced experimental methods, and high-fidelity modeling. Applicants integrating emerging approaches such as AI-driven modeling, digital twins for buildings and districts, multi-scale/multi-physics simulations, advanced thermal storage, and resilience of energy systems in arid climates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Outstanding candidates may be considered for Associate Professor appointments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering and thermo-fluid sciences.

  • Develop a strong, externally funded research program in thermo-fluid sciences.

  • Collaborate with industry and government stakeholders to advance Qatar’s national goals.

  • Contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Supervise undergraduate, graduate students, and mentor postdoctoral researchers.

  • Provide service to the division, college, university, and profession through committees and initiatives.

  • Contribute to HBKU’s broader research and innovation ecosystem.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in higher education, research, or industry (additional experience required for Associate Professor consideration).

  • Demonstrated scholarly record with a PhD dissertation and publications in reputable journals.

  • Strong commitment to teaching excellence and curriculum development.

  • Demonstrated professional and institutional service.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, cultures, and communities.


Additional Skills & Requirements

  • Experience collaborating with industry and government partners (e.g., KAHRAMAA, Qatar Cool, Marafeq Qatar, QatarEnergy, Ashghal).

  • Familiarity with sustainability, smart city projects, energy efficiency, and climate resilience initiatives in urban settings.
