Position Description

The Department of Developmental Biology encompasses the clinical specialties of pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, as well as scientists focused on basic research. Members of the department teach and mentor postdoctoral fellows, orthodontics fellows, pediatric dental residents, students enrolled in the DMD program, MD and PhD candidates at Harvard Medical School, and undergraduate students at Harvard University.

The Department of Developmental Biology is seeking applications for the position of Program Head, Advanced Graduate Orthodontics Program at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Academic rank and salary will commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

The Program Head oversees all aspects of the Advanced Graduate Orthodontics program including: the recruitment and admission of highly qualified applicants; the academic, clinical and oversight of research projects of the residents; the recruitment and calibration of part-time faculty; the development and maintenance of the program-specific curriculum; and the adherence to CODA accreditation standards.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who is able to act as a leader in the field of Orthodontics by laying a vision of innovation, mentoring advanced graduate students, and establishing cutting edge translational research in the field of Orthodontics. The position also includes research and/or clinical responsibilities, based on level of interest.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must possess a DMD or DDS degree from a CODA accredited dental school or equivalent, current or eligible for certification from the American Board of Orthodontics, and be eligible for dental licensure in Massachusetts.

Additional Qualifications

A demonstrated background of clinical innovation and/or research in the field of Orthodontics. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in teaching and clinical instruction, as well as in related areas at the advanced graduate level. Further qualifications should include documented scholarly activity and/or clinical skills to practice productively in the state-of-the-art Harvard Dental Center.
