DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting for an Assistant / Associate Project Scientist in the behavioral development of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities, with an emphasis on language development.

This position will require the applicant to contribute to research on the development of language, cognition, and behavior in individuals with Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, and related neurodevelopmental conditions. Experience required in assessment of these populations and at least some experience in research on cross-linguistic comparisons. The candidate will also be expected to contribute to research on how to test and develop strategies to improve development in affected individuals. The candidate should have some experience in, and understanding of, biomarkers in these populations as well. The candidate will contribute to the execution of ongoing studies, as well as assist in securing future funding, including preparing competitive grant applications. The candidate will be expected to publish manuscripts in related areas and present scientific data at conferences. The candidate will also be expected to conduct assessments within the context of research studies and help train other lab personnel in these assessments.

This recruitment is conducted at the Assistant / Associate rank. The selected candidate will be hired at the Assistant / Associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in psychology, neuropsychology, behavioral neuroscience, communicative disorders, or a related discipline, have been awarded the Ph.D. within the past 10 years, and have a minimum of 4 years of experience beyond the Ph.D. and a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications. The successful applicant will have a background in behavioral, neuropsychological, or language assessment focused on neurodevelopmental conditions in a research setting, as well as on the analysis of longitudinal data. Must have knowledge of, and experience working with, people who have Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, or related neurodevelopmental conditions.
