The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are inviting applications for the position of an Academic Infectious Diseases physician.
This full-time appointment will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto with a position description as a Clinician Scientist at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.
The position will be approximately 25% clinical and 75% research-related.
Expected start date: July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreeable date thereafter.
We are seeking a clinician scientist who will foster excellence in academic infectious diseases. Sunnybrook has established a strategic direction to accelerate clinical trials. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program that fosters innovative clinical trials to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.
Research excellence will be assessed by grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations, awards, and related accomplishments—considering the candidate’s career stage.
The successful applicant will:
Join the Division of Infectious Diseases at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, providing inpatient consultation services for complex patient populations across medical, surgical, oncology, and trauma/critical care services.
Provide approximately 6–12 weeks of inpatient infectious diseases service coverage per year.
Conduct one half-day per week of combined general infectious diseases and Complex OutPatient Antibiotic Treatment (COPAT) clinic.
Seek cross-appointment in the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies.
Supervise graduate students and medical trainees in clinical research.
MD degree and a PhD degree, or enrollment in a PhD program, or equivalent training and experience.
Certification in Infectious Diseases by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or international equivalent.
Eligibility for medical licensure in Ontario from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Estimated compensation: $300,000–$350,000, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience.
The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association, through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered.
