Description

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and the Division of General Internal Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre invite applications for the position of Academic General Internist. Up to two positions may be available.

This full-time clinical academic appointment will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto with a position description as one of the following:

  • Clinician in Quality Improvement (CQI)

  • Clinician Teacher (CT)

  • Clinician Educator (CE)

The appointment rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or at a mutually agreeable date thereafter.


Position Details

  • CQI / CT Positions: Approximately 70% clinical and 30% academic (quality improvement or teaching, respectively).

  • CE Position: Approximately 50% clinical and 50% educational activities and/or scholarship.

The successful candidate will join a collegial Division of 22 full-time faculty members and contribute to general internal medicine practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The candidate will also participate actively in undergraduate and postgraduate education.


Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree.

  • Have, or be eligible for, certification in Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

  • Have, or be eligible for, medical licensure in Ontario.

  • Subspecialty certification in General Internal Medicine is preferred.

Additional requirements by position type:

  • CQI: Advanced training and demonstrated scholarship in quality improvement or innovation (e.g., publications, presentations, awards).

  • CT: Advanced training and demonstrated achievement in teaching (e.g., strong teaching record, awards, education scholarship).

  • CE: Advanced training and demonstrated achievement in educational innovation, leadership, or scholarship.


Compensation and Benefits

  • Estimated annual compensation: $250,000–$300,000, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience.

  • Eligibility for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association, through which clinical billings and benefits are administered.

  • Access to group medical, dental, and life insurance benefit plans.
