Description

The Department of Psychology at Yale University invites applications for an open rank Professor (assistant professor, associate professor with tenure, or full professor) in the area of Social Psychology, beginning July 1, 2026.

This position is open to all sub-areas in Social Psychology, including (but not limited to):

  • Attitudes and social cognition

  • Decision-making

  • Intergroup relations and group processes

  • Interpersonal and close relationships

  • Emotion

  • Motivation

  • The self and identity

The successful applicant will be expected to teach both a service course (a broader psychology course) and a smaller seminar (often on the topic of their choosing).

This position is especially suited for a scholar whose interests afford collaboration with faculty in the other areas of our department (cognitive, developmental, clinical, and neuroscience) and/or with scholars in other schools and disciplines at Yale, such as the School of Public Health, School of Medicine, Jackson School, Law School, and African American Studies.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of rigorous, innovative, and impactful research, a commitment to teaching and mentoring at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and a desire to work in a dynamic, diverse, and collaborative environment.


Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at the time of hire.

  • Research statement (two parts, uploaded as separate documents):

    • Past Research Statement (1000 words max): Summarize main research activities to date.

    • Future Research Statement (500 words max): Summarize research plans over the next 5 years, including key questions and experimental approaches.

  • Teaching statement (1000 words max): Describe teaching style (in courses and in mentoring/supervision) and mention courses you would be excited to teach.

  • Up to three selected publications (published or unpublished).

Letters of Recommendation:

  • Recent PhDs and untenured candidates: Arrange for three letters of recommendation.

  • Currently tenured candidates: Letters of recommendation are not required.
